How To Prep For A Swim Spa Delivery
We’re sharing some necessary steps you should take to ensure a smooth swim spa installation and delivery day!
You finally bought your swim spa and now its time to have it delivered to your home! While you might be getting ready to start swimming, exercising, and relaxing, there is one last step to cover before you can enjoy your swim spa… preparation for delivery day!
Epic Hot Tubs can deliver and install your brand new swim spa in less than a day. However, in order for your swim spa to be delivered and installed safely there a number of steps that you need to follow.
1. Choosing The Right Location
The location you choose to set your swim spa can greatly affect your overall experience. Here are a few factors to consider when choosing the location:
- When choosing the site, make sure to consider the view. You want to ensure you can enjoy a pleasant view while relaxing in your swim spa. No one wants to be looking at trash cans! Choose an area with an open view.
- Make sure the location is not too far from your home. It should be easy to access in any weather or conditions.
- Keep your desired level of privacy in mind.
- Make sure there is a water source nearby to make the process of refilling easier.
- Similarly, also ensure there is drainage nearby. You will eventually need to drain your swim spa and for that you’ll require a proper drainage system.
- Keep an ample distance away from trees and shrubs. Otherwise your spa might be muddled with debris and leaves.
- Leave a 3 foot access area around the swim spa to make sure space is available for maintenance and repair.
“Before delivery day, walk the exact route we will use to bring the spa in, from the truck to the pad, and measure the narrowest point. Gates, fence posts, AC units, and tight corners are what stop a delivery, because a swim spa is far larger than a hot tub and cannot be stood on end or squeezed through. If the only way in is over the house or a fence, that is a crane lift, and it belongs to a professional rigging crew, not something to improvise on the day.”
2. Preparing The Site
Once you’ve chose the location of your swim spa, you can then proceed to preparing it for delivery day. The first question to consider is whether you’ll be placing it above ground or in ground. For an inground installation you will need to have the area excavated. Sometimes, the spa company can provide this excavation service as part of the installation process. Otherwise you will have to hire a contractor.
For an above ground installation, you will require a thick concrete pad to support the swim spa. An uneven or sloped surface can cause problems with the installation. That is why it is recommended to have your base inspected to ensure that it is ready for your swim spa on delivery day!
“Have someone confirm your pad is level and fully cured before we arrive, not the morning of. Once a filled swim spa is sitting on an uneven base, shifting it to correct the slope becomes a major undertaking. Five minutes with a level now saves a very long day later.”
3. Set Up the Electrical Supply

Most swim spas require a 220/ 50 amp GCI hookup. Before your swim spa arrives, ensure that all your electrical work is done. Often times your spa company can refer you to a trusty electrician. Other times, you might need to find one independently.
It is important to hire a certified electrician to ensure all your wiring and connecting work is done flawlessly. You should also keep the electrical supply in mind when choosing the location of your swim spa. The further your swim spa is from your main breaker, the more it will cost to wire it. Save yourself the extra money and and don’t go too far from the breaker when choosing your swim spa’s location.
“The most common day-of delay we see is electrical that is not finished yet. We can set the spa in place, but a licensed electrician has to run the 220V circuit before it can be powered up and fill-tested. Book that work to wrap up before your delivery date, and leave the final connection to the electrician rather than the delivery crew.”
Common Questions About Swim Spa Delivery
Epic Hot Tubs delivers and installs most swim spas in less than a day. A professional crew brings the spa from the truck to your prepared pad along the access path you have cleared, then sets it in place. When a yard is too tight to roll the spa in, the crew may use a crane to lift it over the house or fence, which is always a job for insured professionals. For more on how the process works, see our guide to how hot tubs are delivered and our swim spa moving guide.
Epic Hot Tubs can deliver and install a brand new swim spa in less than a day, as long as your site is fully prepared. The pad, the access path, and the electrical circuit all need to be ready before the crew arrives, otherwise the job can stretch across more than one visit.
Most swim spas require a 220V, 50 amp GFCI hookup, and it must be installed by a certified electrician before your delivery date. It is worth planning the spa location with the breaker in mind, because the farther the spa sits from your main panel, the more the wiring costs. See our checklist on how to prepare before the electrician arrives.
Yes. For an in-ground installation the area has to be excavated first, and some spa companies include that work as part of the install while others leave it to a contractor. For an above-ground installation you need a thick, level concrete pad to support the spa.
Leave a 3 foot access area around the swim spa so there is room for maintenance and repair. It also helps to know your model footprint before delivery day so you can check that the access path and the pad are both large enough; our swim spa sizes and dimensions guide walks through typical measurements.
