Epic Hot Tubs Is Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness
You probably already know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All of us at Epic Hot Tubs are joining the fight against breast cancer and would like to invite you to join us. When you like our Facebook page, we will donate $5 in your name to the American Cancer Society – it’s simple as that!
Why Is the Fight Against Breast Cancer so Important?
Everyone has been touched by breast cancer in some way, but most people don’t realize how pervasive and common this disease is, so we wanted to share some statistics with you from the American Cancer Society.
- 1 in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer during her lifetime.
- While much less common, men also develop breast cancer at a rate of around 1 in 833.
- In 2021, over 300,000 new cases will be diagnosed and over 40,000 people will lose their battle with breast cancer.
- Most people assume it’s mainly hereditary, but around 85 percent of cases occur in people with no history of breast cancer in their family.
These statistics are troubling, but it’s important to recognize the good that is occurring in the fight against breast cancer. The survival rate has raised at least one percent every year between 2013 and 2018 thanks to early detection and improved treatments and is up nearly 30 percent since 1991. Today there is a 90 percent chance of surviving five years after diagnosis, and that number is near 100 percent when diagnosed early or localized.
Why We Are Donating to the American Cancer Society
We chose to raise money for the American Cancer Society because they are dedicated to “freeing the world from cancer,” and do so in a variety of ways:
- Funding and conducting research;
- Sharing information and making information free and readily available;
- Working with lawmakers to pass laws that will improve outcomes against cancer;
- Working to improve access to prevention, screenings, and care;
- Referrals to support for social services, transportation, patient services, medical equipment, and support groups.
For over 100 years, the American Cancer Society has been dedicated to raising public awareness, working with doctors to educate the public, and doing so much to support people with cancer and their families. Their incredible work can’t be overlooked in the fight against cancer, and we want to do our part to provide support.
A Note from Epic Hot Tubs President, Richard Horvath
“Breast cancer affects everyone – it doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman. I’m stepping up to fight breast cancer by raising money and awareness and doing what I can to save more lives. I support the American Cancer Society because every day, they are helping people take necessary steps to reduce their risk of breast cancer or increase early detection by ensuring access to mammograms. They also provide resources and services as well as fund groundbreaking research. The American Cancer Society is saving more lives than ever before, and I’m proud to support them.
